1.Background
Pets have become an indispensable part of modern life, and with the increasing number of pet owners, the number of pets is also growing. Some families even have two or more cats and dogs, or a mixture of both. The management issues between pets are becoming increasingly prominent, such as food grabbing behavior, which can easily cause weaker pets to have insufficient or no food to eat. Integrating RFID technology, such as a Glass Tag RFID, into pet management is an effective means of rapidly improving pet management.
2. RFID technology
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is an automatic identification technology that uses wireless radio frequency signals for contactless recognition and information exchange. It has the characteristics of fast reading speed, strong penetration, long reading and writing distance, and good environmental adaptability. It has been widely used in industry and animal husbandry, such as logistics management, production line item tracking, station identification and identity recognition, animal management, inventory counting, and many other fields.
A complete RFID system mainly consists of application software, RFID readers (RFID readers, RFID card readers, RFID modules, etc.), and RFID electronic tags. RFID electronic tags are the unique identification carriers for items, with each tag having a unique identifier and storing relevant information about the item inside; RFID reader is an intermediate device that connects RFID electronic tags with application software. It uses wireless radio frequency identification signals to identify and exchange information with the electronic tags, thereby obtaining the item information referred to by the tags. The information is then summarized to the application software through a communication interface; The application software is responsible for decoding and analyzing the data information uploaded by the RFID reader, and managing the normal operation of the entire tag system.
3. Application devices
RFID electronic tag
Collar RFID tag: worn on the neck of pets, with a recognition distance of ≥ 30cm, but due to the use of a strap, there is a possibility of it falling off during intense exercise.

RFID Implantable Glass Tube Tag: This RFID tag is small in size and made of bioglass in appearance. The glass tube tag is implanted into the pet’s body through a syringe, which will not cause any adverse or allergic reactions to the pet. The advantage is that it will not be lost, but the disadvantage is that it has a shorter recognition distance than the collar RFID tag, with a recognition distance of ≥ 20cm.

RFID module
It is a low-frequency long-distance RFID module specially developed for pet automatic feeders. It has a small size, long reading distance, stable performance, and strong reliability, making it easy to integrate into pet smart devices. Supports dual band operating frequencies of 134.2kHz and 125kHz, and can read FDX-B and EMID format tags that comply with ISO11784/5 protocol. It supports reading mainstream tags in low-frequency bands and has strong compatibility.

4. Application process
Equip pets with collar style pet RFID chips or implant RFID glass tube chips as the pet’s identification (i.e. the pet’s electronic ID card), and bind it with the pet’s identity information (such as type, breed, age, gender, epidemic prevention, health, etc.).
Install the RFID module in the pet’s exclusive automatic feeder to identify the pet’s RFID chip. Through the RFID module, pets can be quickly and conveniently identified and their identity information can be collected.
When a pet eats, the automatic feeder obtains the identity information of the feeding pet through the RFID module. After the feeder system determines that the pet’s identity information is valid, it opens the lid of the feeder and the pet can eat normally. If the identified pet information does not match, the automatic feeder will not respond. If the pet leaves the feeder midway and the RFID module does not recognize the legitimate RFID chip information, the lid will be covered to prevent other pets from coming to grab food.
5.Application benefits
- 1.The use of RFID technology effectively solves the problem of food grabbing among pets, ensuring that every pet can receive sufficient nutrition;
- Through the individual identification function of RFID technology, it is possible to more accurately grasp the feeding situation of pets and develop more scientific eating plans for them;
- Improved the intelligent management level of pets, enabling more convenient management of their daily lives and saving time and energy;
- RFID technology is also combined with pet hospitals. By using RFID readers to scan pets’ RFID chips, pet hospitals can quickly obtain pets’ identity information (breed, age, epidemic prevention, etc.). When pets are sick, they can quickly develop treatment plans based on past conditions and provide timely and effective medical services.

6. Conclusion
RFID technology not only enhances the scientificity and safety of pet feeding, but also provides a new solution for pet health management. With the continuous advancement of technology, the application of RFID technology in pet life will continue to deepen, bringing pets a more intelligent and personalized service experience. The pet electronic identity management system implemented in Shenzhen has digitized the entire process of pet registration and medical services through RFID technology. Each pet has a unique RFID code that is synchronized in real-time with owner information, vaccine records, and health records, greatly facilitating information exchange between pet hospitals, community management departments, and pet owners.
